Think all cables are made equal?
Think again. Even though HDMI uses a digital protocol to transmit data (e.g. from your AV receiver to your TV), clarity can degrade with lower quality options.
Why? Because that data gets transmitted via a conductor like copper. But the quality of that construction and the materials used determine whether the data exits as faithfully and accurately as it entered. These changes can be subtle, but for aficionados of good picture and sound, noticeable. And the problems get more pronounced the longer a cable is.
Enter, AudioQuest Pearl HDMI.
AudioQuest is the world's biggest and most renowned audiovisual cable company. Founded in 1980 in California, their R&D focuses on materials science and innovations in construction to make products that do the best job of maintaining pristine signal quality.
Here's what leading review magazine What HiFi had to say about the Pearl HDMI when awarding it 5 stars:
"The Pearl is one of the more wallet-friendly HDMI options. But it’s a top performer ... The level of detail is impressive, and it has a secure grasp of motion. The colour palette looks natural while the sound has good dynamic range. If you want to make the most of your home cinema set-up, you’ll want to invest in a good HDMI cable."
The performance of Pearl comes down to construction and materials.
For example, Pearl's Solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound, preventing strand interaction which is a major source of distortion. Its Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation, with a high air content, acts as an effective blocker of external interference.
Better conductors and insulation mean the signal can travel down the line with less interference. In cheaper HDMI cables, more of this data gets lots along the way, relying on the error correction systems of the TV to add in any of the missing pieces. Except this error correction simply uses nearby information (e.g. pixels) to 'guess' what's missing. A better cable which minimises this loss results in picture and sound that is delivered accurately and more clearly.
8,000 customers across the world agree
Pearl has an exceptional aggregated customer review score of 4.7 out of 5 stars across internet purchasers.
This is the perfect system add-on
Pearl is great for someone who's just bought a new TV or projector, or equally for someone with an existing system who wants a cost-friendly upgrade to get that last step of extra sound and picture quality from their TV, AV receiver or soundbar.
The Pearl is also classed 'High Speed', meaning it can handle 18gbps with ethernet and ARC capability for 4K Ultra HD playback. It'll even support 8K if you eventually upgrade your TV or projector down the line. That means it's fully compatible with current and planned standards, as well as backward compatible with standard HD. This is a future-proof cable which you won't have to replace anytime soon.
If you happen to be looking for the next step up, AudioQuest's Cinnamon HDMI offers 1.25% solid silver conductors and HardCell Foam Insulation, ensuring even less distortion and better higher frequency reproduction for more demanding home theatre and audiovisual systems.
